Book Review of 'An Ode to Shimla'

Book: An Ode to Shimla

Authored by Sanjeev Bansal

This book is provided by Arudha Club in exchange for a genuine review.

Blurb:

Sanjeev Bansal's exquisite poems are epistles to the past, reflections upon the future and heartbreaking meditations upon the metaphysics of daily transcendence. One of the most subtly imaginative poets, Bansal bravely transcribes his love for the hilly terrains of Shimla into the charged intersections of love and rejection, nature and religion, loss and renewal. His poems are lucid snapshots developed in a subtle amalgam of memory and intuition. Lyrical and linguistically inventive and yet faithful to poesy of European gloom, Bansal investigates complex personal history, family and romantic love in carefully sculpted lines, thereby making his poetry an odyssey at once metaphorically and emphatically real.

Verdict:

As the name suggests, book is all about the poems relating to Shimla and author's personal experiences. They all throw the light on the life of Shimla and goes on to tell the insights of thinking of the writer. The content used in the book is of great quality and would require a better literary mind to understand the depths of poems.
Sanjeev Bansal has used better language and words contrary to the one used in other Indian authors' books. On this point, this book stands apart and it is a rising sun in Indian literature world.
Though language used is of higher standard, will make it an attracting prospect for a handful of people but it will appeal to those handful of prospects and that's all which is required.
